Old Basing Archers run several GNAS beginner courses each year. Typically two in the Spring and one in the Autumn. We are now taking names for the next courses, for more information and to put your name on the waiting list, please mail Chris Hawkins ( Coordinator ) or mail Chris Wilgar ( Coach ).
Our Beginner's Courses are normally held in April or May and in September. The course runs over three Saturday mornings and in the Spring we also run a Monday course over four evenings. Places are limited to twelve to keep the numbers of coaches to archers down to a minimum and to increase the shooting time.
All archery equipment is included and the lessons will be around the use of recurve bows, these styles of bows are the ones used in the Olympics recently. The club does have many long bow and compound archers and if you are particularly interested in these then please let the coach know and they can be demonstrated and discussed. All you need to do is dress for the weather and wear closed toe footwear.
Juniors between the age of thirteen and fifteen are required to have a parent or guardian present at all times. We regret that the club cannot accommodate juniors under thirteen years of age on the course.
The course is run at our outdoor range on the Old Basing Recreation Ground in Old Basing near to Basingstoke.
We hope that participants of these courses will then decide to join the Old Basing Archers when after completing the course and as an incentive, they will be presented with a joining pack including a bracer a tab and a Score pad. Course participants who join the club may continue to use OBA equipment until they are ready to invest in their own kit, we strongly advise against buying bows or arrows until you have shot a few times as its easy to buy the wrong thing or spend money on something you will outgrow very quickly.
The cost for these courses is £55 per person for the spring course. The cost of the autumn course will be £60 per person. For more details on please contact Chris Hawkins, the beginners course organiser.
We will be glad to hear from anyone interested in Archery at any time, but it may be necessary to go on a waiting list for the next year's course as the course places are taken very quickly.
