Picture a golden morning in early Autumn. Thick dew lies on the grass and a band of busy helpers scurry around bringing to life the ground on which the 13th OBA Longbow Shoot will take place. By 10.45 all is in place. Archers have been arriving from far and wide and at 11am 46 keen bowmen and women are ready for the Assembly.
Fuelled by enthusiasm, optimism and sherry and shortbread all have shot 4 dozen arrows by lunchtime at which point many retire to the local hostelry to quaff the local brew and sample the various dishes on offer. Others make the most of the warm sunshine to relax and dream dreams.
Shooting recommences, another 4 dozen arrows, and the day is over far too quickly. Don Ellis – Field Captain – is thanked and, after much cogitation, the many and various prizes are awarded. The field is cleared and another Longbow Shoot is committed to the history books.
A great "thank you" to all who helped – both on the Saturday and Sunday - make that weekend a success.
Here’s to October 2000.
