The Old
Basing Archers club was founded in 1967 to provide facilities
for members to receive tuition, improve their skills and compete
in the sport of Archery, and is dedicated to the promotion of
Archery as a family recreation.
OBA at present has about 60 shooting members, consisting of Recurve, Compound and Long bow archers. The club is affiliated to the Hampshire Archery Association, Southern Counties Archery Society and the Grand National Archery Society (the governing body for target archery in the UK).
The club meets at their range on Old Basing Recreation Ground, generally most week day evenings and weekends - see shooting times. Modern equipment is available for beginners and novices to use until their technique develops to a level at which investment in their own equipment is justified.
During the summer the club runs several shoots for club members as well as open shoots including the ANDOBA FITA of which Old Basing Archers is the joint organiser with Andover Archers. During the winter months the club runs an outdoor 'Frostbite' club Competition and British Archer postal competition. Indoors the club shoots the Portsmouth round and enters several teams in the British Archer postal league.
The Village of Old Basing as part of Basingstoke, Hampshire is Twinned with Alençon, France. OBA and Alençon Archery Club, take turns in hosting a social/archery weekend in late May.
